GM3GG is the former callsign of the late George Mortimer, one of
the founder members of the Banff and Buchan Amateur Radio Club.
Sadly George died on Saturday 9th September 2001. He will be
greatly missed by his family and by his friends in the world of
Amateur radio. He was an Honorary Member of the Banff and District
Amateur Radio Club as the club was formerly known. George was a 'White
Stick' operator but always persevered in never allowing his failing
eyesight to overcome his enjoyment of life. He was a popular Novice
Instructor, registered with the RSGB and and those students of his
Morse classes will always remember those wonderful lessons. He even
got his devoted Home Help, Grace, to pass her Novice Amateur Radio
Licence exam. There will be many people who will miss George.
Following his death his family agreed that it would be a fitting
tribute to George if his memory could live on forever by allowing the
Banff and Buchan Amateur Radio Club to apply for his callsign, GM3GG,
to be transferred to them. This has now been achieved and we members
of said Club are very pleased to have such a wonderful callsign.
